Response to Global Perspectives of Beauty and Obesity

When our group picked global beauty for our research topic, I pictured it a bit differently. Throughout our research, we found many different things related to beauty. That is part of the reason we decided to include obesity and physical activity in our presentation. Maria's portion of the discussion was interesting for me because the subject material was so new. I did find it a bit difficult to understand, however, and I would like to learn a little bit more about it. Jamie's portion of the presentation was more crowd-pleasing. She presented many different aspects of beauty, showing us bits of our own culture along with bits of other cultures as well. The foot-binding was a grotesque example that got everyone's attention. I think that proved to be quite effective. Bryan's speech about obesity interested me because of the pictures and because of the fact that it coincided with my topic. You could tell he put a lot of work into his portion of it, too. Nick's presentation of physical activity really got everyone's blood pumping, and what he had time to explain seemed pretty great. I think we all worked pretty well together. Everyone seemed to help everyone out when they needed it. I wish that my part had been more interesting, though. It really did not seem to stimulate any real thought... it was just a bunch of "cow." The one thing that I was not very pleased with was our discussion. The class did not really get into our discussion because they seemed to not understand part of the ideals presented. I know that I was a bit confused as well, so that is totally understandable. Also, we could go into some of the things about obesity in adults and with children, but we have basically hit on that stuff in the last several discussions, so nobody wants to hit on it yet again. So, I thought the discussion was a bit weak. Overall, I really feel good about our presentation. We learned a lot and had some fun doing it.
